Description Sodium bicarbonate (SB) or sodium citrate (SC) supplementation seems to be connected with increasing organism buffer capacity. This increase allows to resist cumulation of H+ ions due to anaerobic glycolysis typical for high and maximal intensity physical performances lasting no longer than several minutes. Aim of our double-blind crossover placebo-controlled research was to investigate an effect of ingesting these substances before performing 400 m swimming (duration of ~4-5 min).
