Description Chronic depression (CD) is characterized by psychopathological and phenomological features whichin some aspects are reminiscent of autism spectrum disorders (ASD).•Both disorders are characterized by difficulties concerning empathy, social communication, social perception and social relationships. Impaired theory of mind as a core symptom of ASD (Baron-Cohen, 2000) isalso reported in depressive disorders(Lee et al., 2005; Wang et al, 2008). Further similarities can be noticed in facial expression and vocalbehavior(Riedel 2013).•So far the co-occurence of autistic traits in chronic depression has not been explored systematically. The presentstudy aims at exploringthe existence of autistic traits in patients with CD by usingwell-established measuring instruments of autism. Autistic traits in patients with chronic depression.
