Description | Cardiac rehabilitation (CR) has at University Hospital (UH) Brno long tradition. In Czech Republic, University Hospital was the first hospital, which began a systematic and standard outpatient training as part of the treatment of cardiac patients. Its origins date back to 1993 and are associated with the names of ass. prof. Vaclav Chaloupka, MD. The last head of the department of functional investigations UH Brno, and his wife Sarka Chaloupkova (physiotherapist). After a cautious beginning, KR in UH Brno gradually transformed, training is now longer, stronger and safer. This fact is connected with significant medical progress in diagnostic and treatment of heart disease. From 1993 until the end of 2014 completed the training cycle 1347 cardiac patients, 83% were male and 17% female, mean age 59 ± 10 years. Percutaneous coronary intervention were treated 68% of patients, coronary artery bypass grafting 14% and 18% of patients in group were treated conservative manner. The peak oxygen consumption recalculated per kilogram body weight (pVO2) increased from 19.9 ± 4.8 ml / kg / min to 22.2 ± 5.2 ml / kg / min, statistical significance at p <0.0001. Benefits arising from regular physical activity in cardiac patients demonstrated Kavangh T. et al. to date the largest foreign studios in 2002 and 2003, which were attended by 12,169 men and 2,380 women. According to the results of the author states that increasing 1 ml / kg / min pVO2 improving prognosis average of 1.8 years. It can be reasonably expected that in patients rehabilitated at Brno University Hospital will significantly improve their forecasts after graduating CR, provided however, that they will continue to maintain aerobic fitness gained in the adaptation phase CR. |
