Description The text is a study aid designed to complement the course of Pathophysiology of physical activity in the study field of Physiotherapy. The text aims to provide students with the basic knowledge concerning the environmental causes of the high prevalence of some chronic diseases. The study text is structured into chapters devoted to the interaction between lifestyle and genetics, adaptation and disadaptation syndromes, biological effects of regular physical activity, the basic principles governing the prescription of the effective physical activity programme or sports training programme as well as the physical activity as a means of prevention and treatment of the most common chronic diseases (e.g. obesity, type 2 diabetes, atherosclerosis and cardiovascular diseases including their complications, arterial hypertension, chronic respiratory diseases and malignant tumors).
