Description Foodplains are dynamic ecosystem where the interaction among various environmental media occurs including potential contamination pathways between terrestrial and aquatic ecosysystems. River-floodplains system is a part of transport-deposition sysem of rivers and global biogeochemical cycles-rock weathering-erosion process-riverine transport-sedimentation-sediment redistribution-pedogenesis. High spatio-temporal heterogenity is characteristic feature of foodplain systems (Ward et al. 1998). The heterogenity is reproduced by the interactions among processes of erosion transportion and accumulation of material together with anthropogenic landscape tranformation. High and long term anthropogenic alteration of floodplains in the consequence of high population density resulted in enhanced risks following the floodplain contamination by risky substances (risky elements and persistant organic pollutants). According to Tockner&Stanford (2002), 79% of the riparian area of European rivers is intensively cultivated. The broad agriculture utilisation of floodplains soils eith elevated risky substances concentrations can pose some threats to food safety. The mentioned issue has been researched in the project of the Ministry of the Interior of the Czech Republic - „VG20102014026“ Effects of floods on soil and food chain contamination by risky substances. In the project framework, there has been prepared methodology for identification of agriculturally used floodplain soils with special regard to fluvisols
