Description This article deals with the issue of the effectiveness of transition phases in women’s basketball. The research object was basketball team participating in Slovak highest league. The offensive and defensive transition phases were monitored during the whole season 2010/2011 (41 games). The team scored 437 points in offensive transition phase (average 10.66 +- 7.41 points per game) and allowed the opponent to score 327 points in defensive transition phase (average 7.98 +- 4.81 per game). The statistically significant differences (p < 0.01) were monitored when scored points after the offensive transition phase were compared in winning games (13.35 +- 8.08) and in lost games (6 +- 1.69), and also between received points after the defensive transition phase in wining games (5.88 +- 3.43) and in lost games (11.6 +- 4.78). The statistically significant differences (p < 0.01) were also monitored between scored points and received points in winning games, as well as when compared the scored and received points in lost games. The results indicate that the transition phases are very important in women’s basketball and that they have an influence on the successfulness of the team in a game.
