Citation
Description Apart from opening up a new political perspective, 1989 was also a special time that created a new socio-cultural context. East European modernity found itself in a position to reflect on its past and entertain its transformational liquid present. As the unexpectedly profound Wende took place across the region, it became clear that what was left behind could be dubbed ost-moderne and that a new, liquid, post-modern phase was under way. In this sense, too, was the year 1989 revolutionary, regardless of various political qualifiers usually attached to it ex post, such as velvet or self-limiting.
