Description “Hojo undo” is essential part of karate training for styles of Okinawa (Goju-ryu, Uechi-ryu). It consists of exercises with own body weight for getting basic power and exercises using special traditional equipments for developing specific power for karate technique. We focused on the second group. The purpose of this paper is to introduce these traditional equipments, to suggest modern option for each of traditional equipment and employ them in karate lectures at the Masaryk University, Faculty of sport studies. Twelve traditional equipments were described. For each equipment there were suggested a modern alternative to make students easily to work out the same muscles without original traditional equipments.
