Description | In total, 678 strains originated from NRL for listeria isolated from human (169) and food (509) from different regions of the Czech Republic were tested in the period 2001 to 2012. Antimicrobial susceptibility has been tested by the disk diffusion method. Following antimicrobial agents were tested: ampicillin, penicillin, erythromycin, gentamicin, trimethoprim, vancomycin, tetracyclin and chloramphenicol. The zone diameter breakpoints for Staphylococcus spp. were applied with the exception for penicillin and ampicillin for these agents criteria for Enterococcus spp. were applied (CLSI, 2006). Minimum inhibitory concentration was tested in resistant strains obtained on the bases of disk diffusion method (EUCAST, 2012). Results of phenotypic resistance have been complemented by the assessment of genes encoding resistance by PCR method. All human strains were susceptible to the whole file of tested antimicrobial agents. Resistance of strains isolated from food was 0.59% (3/509). Very good and so far stable susceptibility of human and food strains of L. monocytogenes to antibiotics used in the therapy of listeriosis was found in the monitoring period. Sporadic occurrence of resistance to tetracyclin and erythromycin was detected only in food strains. |
