Description In the article the ethnonyms of Visigoths & Ostrogoths are etymologized on the basis of hypothesis that their names form a logical pair of the type of Tervingi & Greutungi, i.e. "people of forests" vs. "people of stony or sandy land". In this perspective the Visigoths & Ostrogoths may be interpreted as "people of meadows or pastures", i.e. "pastoralists", and "hard-working people", i.e. "farmers", respectively.
