Description | Diode laser thermal vaporization (DLTV) is a novel technique for aerosol generation. In combination with inductively-coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP MS) it allows elemental analysis of sample in submicroliter volume. The principle is sample deposition of a defined volume on a substrate with an additive absorbing light at the wavelength of employed diode laser. Infrared laser light causes pyrolysis/burning of the substrate with the sample and generation of dry aerosol. A low-cost prototype system for DLTV was constructed and its applicability has been proved on determination of lead in whole blood without any pretreatment. The economical method is an alternative to conventional sample introduction methods to inductively coupled plasma with advantages of easy sample preparation, archiving and transportation, minimal sample consumption and short analysis time. |
