Description A river landscape represents an ecosystem along watercourses whose functioning is directly conditioned by the presence of hydrographical network in a landscape. Spatial extent is generally defined as an area influenced by the river waters. Since it is a highly attractive area for the implementation of human needs, a conflict can frequently arise between the activities of the human society and the effects of natural processes associated with the presence of a dynamically developing drainage pattern. It is especially the character of the current hydrographical network or the degree of modification of the natural channel and riparian zone state that can be regarded as a valuable information resource about the state of fluvial environment. Another important variable is the intensity of the anthropogenic pressure, to which the landscape is subjected in a long-term period. The paper presents several possibilities of the selected indicators analysis relevant for obtaining comprehensive information on the environmental state of the river landscape, functioning of the ecosystem services and potential approach to water management in the context of sustainable development.
