Description | The present volume gives a synthesis of the foraminiferal researches conducted on the Mississippian of South China between 1985 and 2009, in the context of a scientific cooperation between the Chinese Academy of Geological Sciences, Belgium scientific institutions and individual scientists. The foraminifers and their biostratigraphy constitute the main part of the work, but additional information on conodonts, corals and incertae sedis is also given. The samples were collected in Hunan, Guangxi and Guizhou Provinces. Dialectically, the foraminifer biozonation of Belgium is emended at the light of the Chinese data. The main changes concern the Tournaisian zones MFZ4 to MFZ6, much better documented in South China, and MFZ11 which recorded a longer time interval. The upper boundary of this zone is indeed coinciding with a sequence boundary in Belgium, corresponding to a significant gap. The investigated section are described and the indication of the samples origin is given. The abundant material serves as basis for a deep revision of the foraminifer systematic which forms the main part of this work. |
