| Description | The occurrence of schizophrenia remains the same over the time and in different parts of the word. It is commonly assumed that schizophrenia results from interactions between a genetically mediated neurobiological vulnerability and nongenetic risk factors. The paper further discusses the diagnostic criteria, clinical picture, course of the disease and prognosis. The patient examination is also described in greater detail. Much attention is devoted to the current trends in treatment of schizophrenia. Evidence-based, measurement - based, complex and individualized treatment is preferred. Pharmacotherapy remains the fundamental part of the treatment of the disease. |
