Description | Hubris is surely one of the phenomena that played an important role in the morality of the Greek people. The paper provides an analysis of the above-mentioned phenomenon in the tragedy Philoctetes by Sophocles, staged for the first time in 409 BC. As shown, hubris is an essential feature not only of the Atreids and Odysseus, but to some extent of Neoptolemus as well, especially once ambition ruins his good morals, and even, which may seem surprising, of the suffering Philoctetes. |
