Description The aim of this study was to analyse number of plasma cells (PCs) in diagnostics of monoclonal gammopathies (multiple myeloma, monoclonal gammopathy of undetermined significance) and to find parameter which can distinguish between MGUS and MM. Lower number of PCs was found in MGUS patients when compared with MM patients and these PCs can be separated into subpopulations including normal residual CD19+CD56- PCs and abnormal CD56+CD19- (alternatively CD56+CD19+ or CD56-CD19- in MM cases) PCs. Surface marker CD19 is a useful parameter for identification of normal residual PCs and this parameter can help also in differential diagnosis of monoclonal gammopathy. We would like to use this evaluation of PCs for detection of minimal residual disease and study of prognosis as well.
