Experts from the Technical University of Munich Visited Our Faculty
From December 4 to 6, 2024, our faculty welcomed experts from the prestigious Technical University of Munich – Dr. Paulina Wasserfurth-Grzybowska and M.Sc. Helena Engel. At their home university, they specialize in research related to sports nutrition, with a particular focus on elite sports and the RED-S syndrome. Their visit was part of the university's program to support international guest lecturers (PPSŘ). The experts accepted the invitation of Associate Professor Michal Kumstát, who focuses on athlete nutrition at the Department of Sport Performance and Diagnostics, to present on the topic of energy availability, share practical experiences from elite sports, and discuss the research they are conducting in Munich.
Dr. Paulina Wasserfurth-Grzybowska's lecture, “Performance-Related Aspects of Energy Availability in Athletes,” was aimed at students across all study programs and raised many questions about the complex effects of inadequate energy intake on an athlete's health and performance.
Helena Engel shared her experience from the role as a sports nutritionist for the German Ski Federation with third-year students in the "Regeneration and Nutrition in Sports" program. Her workshop took place during the course “Nutritional Programming in Sports.” The expertise of both specialists provided our students with exceptional insights directly from practice and confirmed how essential it is for a successful sports nutritionist to possess a broad range of competencies.
In addition to teaching, the foreign experts met with our Ph.D. students who are conducting research on topics related to sports nutrition at the Department of SPORT and HEALTH (such as RED-S syndrome, women’s sports, bone health, etc.). This was a great opportunity for our students to share their work with foreign experts.
We are extremely grateful for the time and energy Paulina and Helena devoted to us, as well as their willingness to share their experiences. We hope our collaboration with the Technical University of Munich will continue also in the future, and we look forward to more such meetings that will enrich both our students and the academic community.
Thank you for your visit, and we wish you great success in your future endeavors!
